Construction schedules and 4D project data
22 February 2024CO2 estimation and calculation of carbon emissions in construction projects
22 February 20246D, 7D and 8D are advanced attribute layers of information modeling, each of which contributes additional layers of attributes to the comprehensive project information model, the basis of which are the attributes of the 3D model with their number and volume.
- In 6D, in addition to 3D geometric attributes of elements, environmental sustainability information (attributes) is added to help evaluate and plan how a project will affect the environment, and consider aspects such as energy efficiency and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
- 7D augments entities with attributes about facility management so that it is possible to track how the facility is used and maintained after construction is complete.
- 8D is an additional attribute layer that describes the safe use and operation of buildings. In this phase, safety measures are planned and incorporated into the overall information model.
In structured tabular form, the layers from 4D to 8D represent additional attributes, in the form of columns of filled values, added to already filled 3D model attributes such as name, category, type and volumetric characteristics.
Layers 6D, 7D and 8D add additional data such as for example recyclability percentage, carbon footprint, warranty period, replacement cycle, installation date, safety protocols and many others.
For our new window, the element with ID - W-NEW (Figure 3.3-5) has the following 3D-8D attributes:
3D - geometric information:
- Type Name – “Window” element
- “Width” of 120 cm
- We can also add the element's BoundingBox points or its geometry to a separate attribute, for example in XML code format
6D - Environmental Sustainability:
- “Recyclability“ rate of 90%
- “Carbon footprint“ - 1622 kg CO2
7D - facility management data:
- “Warranty period“ of 8 years
- “Replacement cycle” 20 years
- Requires annual “Maintenance”
8D - Ensuring the safe use and operation of buildings:
- Window “Installed” by «XYZ Windows» company
- Complies with ISO 45001 “Safety standard”
Multidimensional attribute-based modeling of project entities provides a complete view of their life cycle, operational requirements, and many other aspects required in the design, construction, and operation of the project.
