QTO calculations using rules from Excel
22 February 2024Construction schedules and 4D project data
22 February 2024In addition to the cases already discussed for creating calculations for cost estimates, one of the key cases of data application in construction is the determination of time attributes for individual construction activities or the time frame of the project as a whole. In order to calculate the timing and scheduling of activities, we will again need to refer to the calculation database described in detail in the section "Calculations and Estimates for Construction Projects".
In the process of calculating the cost attribute of each work, we don't just list the quantity of material resources from the "Construction Resource Database", we also include time costs in the calculations by assigning elements that have time attributes - be it a construction machine, a laborer, or a material delivery - a quantity attribute and a cost per hour of "time".
Thus, we include in the costing not only fuel and materials, but also the time and labor of machinists or auxiliary workers. In the example shown (Figure 3.3-1), the costing table is a costing item for the installation of foundation blocks, showing each element - the component parts of the job, such as preparation, frame installation and concrete pouring, as well as the associated materials and temporary labor.
To plan the work sequence in the costing table, in addition to the work code, description, quantity, unit of measurement and cost, the attribute "Work order" - work sequence - is displayed in an additional column for the elements with attributes to which there are time values (hour, day) in the volume dimension. The work order described with the help of the digit helps to establish the order of execution of tasks on the construction site, which will be used for scheduling.
