The beginning of the data volume boom
18 February 2024The cost of data storage: the economic aspect
18 February 2024In the last two years, 90% of all existing data has been created. As of 2023, each person, including professionals in the construction industry, generates about 1.7 megabytes of data per second, and the total amount of data in the world reaches 64 zettabytes in 2023 and is projected to exceed 180 zettabytes, or 180*10^15 megabytes by 2025.
In today's construction business world, even in small companies, a huge amount of information is actively generated every day. If each employee of a small company of 10 people working 3 hours a day produces about 1.7 MB of data per second, the company generates approximately 180 Gigabytes of data per day: 1.7 MB (generated by each employee per second) for 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour and 3 hours of work per employee.
If we assume that about 60% of this information is frequently overwritten or deleted, then based on rough calculations it follows that the average company with 10 employees generates about 500-2000 gigabytes of new data every month.
