Unstructured data
18 February 2024Semi-structured data
18 February 2024Text data in the construction industry encompasses a wide range of formats and types of information, from paper documents to informal communication methods such as letters, conversations, work correspondence and verbal meetings on the construction site. All of this textual data carries critical information for managing construction projects, from details of design decisions and changes in plans to discussions of safety concerns and negotiations with contractors and clients.
A variety of text formats are found in the construction industry, from Word documents (.doc, .docx) and PDFs of technical documentation (.pdf) to text files, meeting transcripts from Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet (.txt), and audio recordings of discussions and meetings (.mp3, .wav) that are then transcribed into text.
But while written documents such as formal requests, contract terms and conditions, and email messages usually already have some structure, verbal communications and work correspondence often remain unstructured, making them difficult to analyze and integrate into project management systems.
The key to efficient management of such data is to convert this variety of textual information into a structured form. Such a conversion allows for automatic integration of the processed information into existing management systems that already operate with structured data.
